Minimal Criminal – So Ya Lha (Plusquam Chillout)
Take a bunch of proper sub-basses, add some brain-tickling resonance, throw in some wobbles, spice it up with broken beats and last but not least: Add an esoteric Asian vocal and overtone singing. There you go with So Ya Lha, a delicious cocktail of Bass music, experimental electronics and classic Psy Chill Out! On this EP, it is served in even 3 different versions.
Minimal Criminal is a producer duo living on 2 different continents: One of the guys is based in Israel, the other in Brazil. What might have been difficult, yes impossible 15 years ago is a huge advantage today. Unlike many others, Minimal Criminal keeps breaking new grounds, exploring new sounds, keeping their roots but freely heading towards very different genres. This EP clearly bears the hallmarks of their psychedelic past, twisted synthesizers and mushroom sound effects make So Ya Lha suitable for the most psychedelic Chill Outs. Also the vocals of Asian singer Kencho Wangdi and overtone singing create a very esoteric atmosphere. Still there are also other components, like the rousing bass music rhythm of So Ya Lha which even employs subliminal wobble sounds. While this title might even be picked by an experimental Bass Music DJ, the remix by Zhyin is floating Ambient built around a melodic arpeggio and the vocal. In another version, Nativ throws in some heavy kick drums and acidic synthesizer riffs, creating a dark and truly twisted Downtempo track.
