Gaudium – Psychonauts EP (Plusquam Records)
Gau·di·um [n]: 1. joy, delight, gladness 2. physical / sensual delight 3. cutting-edge Progressive Trance from Sweden
If you have been to any open air festival during the past years and you made on the dance floor, there is a very good chance that you have been dancing to the music of Gaudium. What took off around 2005 with the album “Nordic Nature”, a milestone in the history of Scandinavian Progressive Trance, has long become a synonym for driving, deep, but at the same time light and uplifting sound. Cutting-edge in terms of musical ideas as well as production quality!
This Gaudium EP is dedicated to all Psychonauts out there. As a matter of fact, it’s not only a soundtrack for all explorers of inner space- no, it’s finest and purest fuel for their expeditions! The title track Psychonauts draws all its forward thrust from a heavy, galloping bass line upon which quirky sounds and acidic synth leads unfold. An unexpected breakdown into a shuffled, slower pace lends to the track a very entertaining variety. SSRI, spelled out Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor, works just like the drug with the same name: It keeps you happy… Starting with heavy acoustic drum beats, this tune has a literally rocky feeling from the very first bar. Morphing into a melodic intro, the track eventually erupts into a high-energy Progressive Trance stomper, again varied by some nice variation in rhythm.
